Perceived effect of anxiety on academic performance among students of college of nursing, NAUTH, Nnewi

Abstract
Anxiety is a serious problem affecting all countries. It is a psychological and physiological state characterized by physical, emotional, cognitive and behavioral components. The purpose of the study is to investigate the perceived effect of anxiety on academic performance among students of the College of Nursing Nnewi. Health belief model was utilized as the theory guiding the study. The design used was descriptive survey research designs, a population of 264 students and a sample size of 70 students determined through convenience sampling technique. A self-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Validity and reliability of the instrument were done. Data collected was analyzed using percentages and presented in frequency distribution tables. The findings from the study showed that the majority of the student nurses has experienced anxiety and has a positive perceived effect on academic performance, majority of the student nurses (mean 3.3) reacted to the various anxiety, the experience and the majority of the student nurses (mean 3.2) identified the various anxiety management coping strategies. It is recommended that students should be properly guided on the need to handle and cope with anxiety and be made to understand that some level of anxiety is required in performing a task and the time to complete lecture to exam should be long enough to prepare so that student nurses can prepare adequately for examination and time for sporting activities should be included in the student nurses curriculum at all level....
