Abstract
The Ethiopia and Eritrea war, which occurred between 1998 and 2000, was a significant conflict that had far-reaching consequences for both nations and the wider Horn of Africa region. In 1998 a war started in the horn of Africa. Eritrea and Ethiopia, two countries with a shared history and close relationship, initiated a military conflict over the control of the city of Badme, which is an important strategic point for commerce and economic development. The sovereignty of this place had not been clearly defined by the colonial treaties that stabilized the borders of the different regions and the governments of both countries adopted opposed delimitations. Furthermore, neither Eritrea nor Ethiopia submitted their differences to the International Court of Justice, contrary to other African countries that managed to peacefully solve their border differences. This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive investigation into the causes and effects of the Ethiopia and Eritrea war, analyzing the underlying factors that led to the conflict and examining its socio-political, economic, and humanitarian impacts. Through an extensive review of scholarly literature, primary sources, and expert interviews, this study seeks to shed light on the complexities surrounding this war and contribute to a deeper understanding of the conflict's ramifications. ...
