Abstract
This research project examines the impact of Okada riders' behavior on accident rates in Katsina town. The study aims to identify the causes of accidents involving Okada riders and propose measures to enhance their awareness. Data was collected from 60 commercial motorcycle riders, with 55 valid responses analyzed. The findings reveal that overspeeding, wrong overtaking and poor road conditions are the primary factors contributing to accidents among Okada riders. Many riders fail to adhere to road safety regulations, such as carrying multiple passengers, neglecting safety equipment, and lacking valid licenses. Some riders also engage in drug use while driving, while others lack knowledge of traffic rules. Recommendations include providing adult literacy classes to improve literacy skills among Okada riders, allocating funds for road safety awareness campaigns, improving road infrastructure, enforcing strict penalties for drug-impaired riding, and mandating helmet usage. Additionally, the government should focus on creating employment opportunities for youth to reduce their reliance on motorcycle riding as a livelihood. In conclusion, this research highlights the causes of Okada accidents and suggests measures such as education, awareness campaigns, infrastructure enhancements, law enforcement, and job creation to mitigate these incidents and promote responsible behavior among Okada riders....
