Abstract
This study examines The Causes and Implications of Truancy on Science Secondary Students’ Academic Performance in Gwale Local Government. Descriptive research design was adopted in conducting this research. Four research objectives and research questions each were formulated. The population of the study was 1068 teachers and the sample used for this study was 161 teachers. Self-structured questionnaire was formulated and validated by three different experts in the relevant area of the study. The data was presented and analyzed using simple percentage. The result showed that truancy hinders effective learning and could lead to the poor academic performance of truants. Constant absence from school has serious negative consequences both for truant students/youth themselves and for communities, which suffer both short and long-term threats to public safety. Based on the findings of the study, It was recommended that: parents should put more effort to ensure that their children are adequately provided for and morally groomed, and the increasing student enrolment at all levels of education should be matched with corresponding professionally qualified teachers. ...
