Abstract
This research focuses on achieving the sustainable development goals (SDG) through small and medium scale enterprises in Kogi State using Lapo Microfinance Bank, Lokoja as the case study. The objectives of the study includes: to determine whether small and medium scale enterprises have the potential for achieving sustainable development goals in Kogi State,  to examine if there is a significant relationship between small and medium-scale enterprises and sustainable development in Kogi State, and to examine whether small and medium scale enterprises contribute positively in the achievement of sustainable development goal of poverty alleviation in Kogi State.  The research method adopted was descriptive method while both the primary and secondary were methods of data collection and questionnaires.  The major instrument used to gather data from primary source is the questionnaire. From a population of thirty (30) staff, twenty-eight (28) staff were randomly selected and sampled. The findings among others revealed that small scale contributes positively to the achievement of sustainable development goals of poverty alleviation in Kogi State and can enhance economic growth of Nigeria, and SMEs can foster self-reliance and self-dependent, enhance wealth distribution and spread of economic activities. Thus, it is recommended that SMEs should be funded adequately by governments to enable them play major roles as engines of growth and economic development. In this sense, the microfinance policies should be restructured so that prospective SMEs can have access to loans on a sustainable basis in partnership with banks in the areas of feasibility study, project development and finance. ...
