Abstract
This research work titled“the effect of poverty on educational development of Nigerians using Makurdi Local Government Area as case study)”, the researcher set out the main objectives of the study which include determining how poverty affects the educational development of students in Makurdi Local Government Area, to identify the factors that contribute to poverty in Makurdi Local Government Area, and to identify effective solution towards alleviating poverty in Nigeria. The theory researcher used was the Theory of Individual Deficiencies. To successfully carry out this research, three questions were formulated and structured questionnaires were designed based on the research questions. The survey design was adopted, the target population of the study is 100 respondents and 100 respondents were used as sample size as such population is manageable. To find solutions to the problems of poverty on education development, the research work used primary and secondary data as it was only restricted to Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State. A sample of 100 respondents was selected using cluster sampling technique.  The data collected was analyzed and presented in a tabular form for easy understanding. Also, simple percentages were used for further analysis. The study also uses both descriptive and analytical methods in analyzing the data from the sampled area and recommended that Government should empower the disadvantaged and enhance their capacity to mitigate disparities and stop the advance of impoverishment and the Government should formulate policies such as scholarships for students from low socio-economic status and soft loans for the parents to enable such students to have equal opportunity to education as children from high socioeconomic status....
